| Description: | The large and impressive mahogany case with break arch hood and profuse carving throughout including to the swan necked pediment, finials, capitals to the freestanding fluted columns, the frieze above and below the ogee section hood door and to the trunk and base, having a well figured mahogany trunk door with ‘ecclesiastical’ shaped top flanked by columns with triple, ringed shafts above the base with canted corners and four ogee feet. The 14 inch break arch dial with applied, silvered chapter ring having Roman hour numerals, outer minutes, Arabic five minute divisions, matted centre with bolt and shutter maintaining power, seconds ring below XII, sunken, silvered, scroll cartouche with peripheral engraving signed, James Barnsley, London, 'Turks' head foliate spandrels to the corners, finely pierced and chased blued steel hands, calendar chapter to the top left and ‘strike-silent’ to the top right, the arch with a finely painted Lakeland scene within an arc of clouds showing the age and phase of the moon, the time of sunrise and sunset throughout the year and the position of the sun above the horizon. The substantial two train movement with five turned baluster pillars, very finely cut six spoke wheels to the going train and well finished, high count pinions throughout, having a dead beat escapement with contrate and worm bevel gearing driving the astronomical calendar directly from the motionwork, the weights lead filled and brass covered.
